TCP load balancer is a type of load balancer that uses transmission control protocol (TCP), which operates at layer 4 — the transport layer — in the open systems interconnection (OSI) model. TCP load balancers are for applications that do not use HTTP. When deployed in front of a database cluster, a TCP load balancer spreads requests across all available server configurations.
